The Pawfect Partnership

Updated: Jun 28, 2020

This is the first of a two part series on why two friends decided to disrupt the property market. In the first instalment founder Mitzi discusses how a bad experience that nearly left her and her dog Tallie homeless subsequently inspired the start-up.

Mitzi and Tallie

In July 2019 I lost thousands of pounds and was nearly left homeless when a flat purchase fell through at the last minute due to an undisclosed ‘no pets clause’. As difficult as the financial loss was, the heartbreak of missing out on an otherwise perfect property was truly devastating. I was also shocked by the negligence and lack of empathy the sales team had shown in allowing the sale to progress to the point of exchange, despite being aware from the outset that the home was for me and my cherished Golden-Collie Tallie (picture below). At one point I was even asked if I would consider re-homing her!

One year later, I’m on the property hunt again, but I’ve learned a lot from last year’s experience. First and foremost, owning your home doesn’t mean you’re allowed to keep a pet there (particularly for flats). I’ve also realised just how difficult it is to find somewhere that you like, that’s within budget (especially the lower end of the market), and that allows you to keep a pet or two.

So, why found Pawfect Properties? In January 2020 having been on hold for 30 minutes to find out if a new residential development in Hackney was pet friendly (it wasn’t) I hit peak frustration. It felt (and still feels) unfair to me that despite all the positivity pets and their owners bring to communities they are the most disadvantaged when it comes to finding a home to settle down in. At this point I decided to found Pawfect Properties to spare other pet owners the extreme highs and lows involved in trawling websites and calling estate agents to find a good home for them and their furry friend(s).

The company is in its infancy, but I’m confident that with my childhood friend and lifelong animal lover Nicky onboard we can help our subscribers find their pawfect property.

In part two of this two part series 'The Pawfect Partnership: Nicky, Cloud and Rainbow' partner Nicky speaks about her experience of the rental market and why the Pawfect Properties mission is important to her.
